VICTORIA, BC – In a fast-evolving sector, Orian Construction relies on traditional standards of transparency and hard work to stand out in the remodel and renovation industry.

“Costs are tight. Good communication at every level is expected and checking in on a weekly basis with each client, providing a detailed and transparent budget with spreadsheets of all costs, keeps the client involved and aware of progress and timeline,” said Dorian Jeck, owner and founder of Orian Construction.

“We work with amazing people on impressive projects. Our reputation stands on our ability to deliver what the client wants and expects, on time, and to keep communication channels open.”

Jeck, who created Orian over ten years ago, has worked in the industry for over 32 years and comes by a passion for building and fine work honestly.

“I was raised on Gabriola Island. Both Mom and Dad worked in Silva Bay, Dad as a shipwright and Mom running the gift store. My brother and I, we both learned how to fix and build things at an early age and both of us went into the building trade.”

Orian Construction takes the owners’ wish list and creates something beautiful

Focusing on the remodel and renovation sector, especially of classic style homes, was an easy choice for Jeck. He explained that he likes taking what was ‘ugly’ and turning it into something beautiful.

“Working on these older character homes has been incredibly rewarding. Every day I’m learning or doing something new. You just don’t know what you’re getting into with older homes. I’m never bored! And when the job is finished, visually it is so gratifying.”

Inside and outside, Orian Construction brings attention to every detail

One of his most exciting projects, has been the Rattenbury House in Rockland. It was originally built 120 years ago and was designed by Francis Rattenbury, the same architect who designed the legislative buildings in Victoria. The house hadn’t been worked on in over 50 years when it was purchased by the new owners in 2017. Jeck said that updating it meant holding on to its characteristic traditions while adding more liveable and contemporary spaces.

“The clients were really pleased with how it all came together,” Jeck said.

The house on Rockland might be one of Orian’s biggest remodels but it isn’t the only impressive one. He and his team have traveled to the Gulf Islands and across Vancouver Island to create one-of-a-kind rebuilds, always maintaining the character and functionality of the home.

“We’ve worked as far as Pender Island, Shawnigan Lake, and Bamfield, as well as Victoria.”

Jeck explained that he is mostly self-taught doing every job from the hands-on hammer to nail to management and administration.

“I left home early and moved to Vancouver, taking on any construction job. I ended up working on leaky condos for five years, remediating multiple buildings having up to 100 units. It gave me unique perspectives and experience. But it wasn’t easy. I learned the importance of communication with clients, inspectors, and homeowners! It also helped me realize that the Island is my home.”

Jeck’s ability to help fulfill a client’s vision of their homes is what keeps his company in demand. It ensures that key elements of character homes are retained, including customizing fine finishing details.

Orian Construction specializes in custom character home remodels as well as bathroom, deck, kitchen, and exterior renovations. Most importantly, it delivers new and beautiful spaces the homeowner will enjoy for years to come.
