Red Seal carpenter who trained through MAC’s in-house apprenticeship now oversees construction quality across Greater Victoria projects
VICTORIA, BC — Hal Ferris learned his trade through MAC Reno-Design-Build’s own apprenticeship program. Today he runs construction for the company. As Construction Manager, Hal oversees field operations, resource planning and construction quality across MAC’s whole-home renovations, additions, custom homes and secondary suites.
Over more than ten years with MAC, Hal completed both the company’s in-house apprenticeship and the formal carpentry apprenticeship at Camosun College. He holds his Red Seal, is a certified cabinetmaker, and has formal training in project management and leadership. He also holds a degree in English and History from Concordia University.
“I enjoy working with clients to bring them the home they want,” Hal said. “I can speak to everything from how deep we dig the foundation to how the kitchen comes together at the end.”
Hal’s experience includes timber-frame construction, complex multi-storey additions, and builds on challenging terrain, where early decisions determine the success of the whole project. He has also led improvements to MAC’s field procedures, apprentice training and the mentorship of carpenters across the production team.
In his new role, Hal coordinates labour and resources across MAC’s production calendar and works with project managers and site leads to keep every project moving.
“Hal has led at this level for years, so this role is a natural next step,” said Blaise McDonald, President of MAC Reno-Design-Build. “He gives our crews what they need to deliver a better, more predictable experience for every client.”
