Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society has elected Karen Aitken as Board President and welcomed four new members to its board of directors.
VICTORIA, BC — Karen Aitken has been elected Board President of the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society, as the organization also welcomes four new members to its board of directors.
Jacquelyn E. Miller, Jordan Archibald, Jeff Osgarby and Tess McNaughton were elected as new board members, joining Aitken, who had served on the board since last year before taking on the president’s role.

Craigdarroch Castle executive director John Hughes welcomed the appointments, saying the new members bring valuable expertise and experience to the organization.

Aitken retired in July from her position as director of the Parliamentary Education Office at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, a department she had led since its founding in 2001. She holds degrees from Carleton University, Algonquin College, the University of Victoria and Royal Roads University, and previously served as president of the Parliamentary Visitor Services Association, a national group of parliamentary educators. She has also held board chair roles with Fairfield United Church and the Castleview Child Care Society.
Miller is a Victoria-based lawyer and writer who founded Artemis Advocacy, a law practice serving Indigenous governing authorities, organizations and individuals across the province. She currently serves as treasurer of the Victoria Bar Association and chairs the Women Lawyers Forum’s Vancouver Island section with the Canadian Bar Association-BC. Miller holds a Juris Doctor, a Juris Indigenarum Doctor and a Master of Arts from the University of Victoria, and has written on Indigenous land relations in the south Island region.
Archibald is a designer and creative director who leads York Brooks Design. A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, he spent a decade in Vancouver working in design, architecture and heritage before returning to Victoria. He supports several community organizations, including the CNIB and the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, and was recently appointed chair of the Historian and Archivist Committee for the Victoria Commandery of the Sovereign Order of St. John. His husband, Kelly Archibald, previously served on the Castle’s board.
Osgarby is a retired banker who returned to Victoria after two decades away. A Dalhousie University MBA graduate, he volunteers with several local organizations, including the Mustard Seed, Our Place Society and the Victoria SPCA.
McNaughton previously worked in collections, archives and community programming at the Galt Museum & Archives in Lethbridge, Alta. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in history at the University of Victoria, focusing on the history of lesbian publications in B.C.
The board thanked outgoing members Moira Dann, Kelly Somogyi, Will Sorrell and Angelica Pass for their service. The new members join previously elected directors Amy Hinrich, Stephen Lyons and Julie Murtha.
