WESTERN CANADA – Industry giant EllisDon has acquired two Canadian companies specializing in power infrastructure, expanding the construction and engineering firm’s capabilities in the electricity sector.

The company announced the acquisitions of Hardline Engineering and Firefly Power & Energy, saying the deals will strengthen its expertise in high- and medium-voltage power engineering, transmission and distribution systems, substations and utility construction.

Hardline Engineering provides engineering and project delivery services involving electrical interconnections, transmission, distribution, substations and streetlighting.

Firefly Power & Energy focuses on high-voltage construction, operations and maintenance.

Ian Kerr, senior vice-president and area manager of EllisDon Power, said the companies have established strong relationships with clients in the industry.

“We’re excited to welcome the Hardline and Firefly teams to EllisDon,” Kerr said. “Together, we’re bringing integrated solutions to the power sector, strengthening our ability to deliver power projects that support growing communities and industries across Canada.”

Both companies will continue operating under their existing names while gaining access to EllisDon’s significant resources and national scale.

The acquisitions are expected to allow EllisDon to provide expanded services to electric utilities, renewable energy companies, industrial and commercial clients and public-sector organizations throughout the project lifecycle.

That includes engineering and design, construction and project delivery, as well as operations and maintenance.

The expansion comes as demand for electricity infrastructure continues to grow across Canada, driven in part by population growth, industrial development, renewable energy projects and increased demand for electricity.

EllisDon, a Canadian construction and building services company, has continued to expand its operations in recent years. The acquisitions of Hardline Engineering and Firefly Power & Energy add specialized expertise to its power infrastructure business.

It is also encouraging to see a Canadian company continue its strong growth and expand its capabilities in an area that will play an increasingly important role in supporting communities and industries across the country.
